It is We the People that will pay!

Israel_rules_AmericaThis one comes to us via Voice of America. For those that do not know, Voice of America (VOA) is the official broadcasting service of the United States federal government, offering radio and television by satellite, as well as AM/FM shortwave frequencies. VOA is also available in audio format on the internet which also features transcribed versions of programs. This additional background was mostly for my own edification but I hope it lends some credibility to at least the perspective from which this article comes.

We have been reporting about this for over a week now. I just can not help myself. I am referring to the international fallout from the U.N. sanctioned Goldstone Report, a report highlighting some of the atrocities Israel committed to the Palestinians during last years Gaza war. It also highlighted what it deemed “war crimes” that were also committed by Hamas. So not what I would call one-sided or bias.

Remember, last week we read that Gabriela Shalev, the Israeli ambassador to the UN, first concluded that the real problem “facing Israel over the Goldstone Report is political and not legal”. She also pointed out, to get out of this embarrassing mess; Israel would have to “rely on our friends, the US and other enlightened countries.” Read our “Israel: Our democracies, You are on high-alert!” article from last week for more on that.

I am fairly certain that our readers had no doubt at all that Israel could indeed “rely on our friends, the US and other enlightened countries.” I think we all know that. But the quickness and audacity by which Israel’s friends, Israel’s democracies acted, even made my head spin.

That brings us to today’s article from VOA entitled “US House Overwhelmingly Passes Resolution Critical of UN Report on Gaza”. The transcript starts out:

“The U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning a report by a United Nations fact-finding panel that criticized Israel as part of an assessment of the conflict in Gaza in 2008 between Israel and Hamas. House lawmakers approved the symbolic measure by a vote of 344 to 36.”

So what we are learn today from our Federal government, that is to say our democratically elected, House of Representative lawmakers, is that over 90% of them are willing to pass a House Resolution to discredit, dismiss and overwhelmingly condemn this report that just happens to be critical of Israel. They are saying the report is not legitimate and “irredeemably biased and unworthy”. A report that documents what everyone in the entire Federal government already knows beyond a shadow of a doubt is not only accurate, but it reflects the reality that has always existed in Israel. And they all KNOW it!

Our democratically elected members of Congress are taking the side of Israel over the U.N. General Assembly, the U.N. Human Rights Council, the Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International. Who do you think is more credible? Who do you trust?

To be fair, less that 10% of the House voted against this Resolution. As the VOA article points out, they thought that the Goldstone Report contained a balanced criticism of both Israel and Hamas (as we have been reporting all along). One lawmaker even asserted that the House Resolution “is blatantly biased and it damages U.S. credibility.” Another voice of reason in the House thinks that the Resolutions “passage would also complicate U.S. efforts for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.”

Another important thing to note from the VOA transcript, Richard Goldstone, who was in charge of the original U.N. fact-finding mission and whose namesake the report is based, has written to Congress and demanded changes to the House Resolution because it has what he called “serious factual inaccuracies.” The man that wrote the report is telling Congress they are not even accurately referencing the original Goldstone Report with this Resolution.

Seriously now, I can’t make this stuff up. It just keeps coming. It is like the Nationalist Coalition is the child in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale and we keep crying out that “The emperor is not wearing any clothes!” Except we are NOT the only ones crying out. The voices are definitely getting louder. It is obvious to anyone paying attention.

Despite that, just look at how the U.S. Government and mass media are working double time to discredit the report entirely. Just look at the lengths to which Israel will go to cover it all up! And the U.S. government is eager to assist as always. Incredible!

What we all need to understand is that this disastrous government we have in Washington, this embarrassment of a democratic system that has degenerated from what our Founding Fathers left us to what we see today, puts each and everyone of us at odds with the rest of the world. I am not talking about how this “damages U.S. credibility” around the world. We have no credibility around the world when it comes to Israel. If we can point out the glaringly obvious Israel-obedient slant that well over 90% of the politicians in Washington have, so can the rest of the world. We need to fully understand that WE will be held responsible for the political prostitutes and their actions. We are the ones that will be targeted. We are the ones that will be made to pay for what these politicians are doing to Israel’s enemies.

As a great man once said:
“And then there are the politicians: may every one of them die violently and painfully at the end of a rope or in a bloody ditch, and may God damn all their souls to hell! W.L.P. June 2000
